Dear Scout/Parent:
Id like to introduce Troop 39 of Morris Plains New Jersey. If you are a second year WEBELOS getting ready to cross the bridge and earn your Arrow of Light award, you are about to make a decision about where you are going in Scouting from here. The reason Im writing is to tell you a little bit about Troop 39, and to invite you and your family to come and see us for yourself before you make your decision.
Troop 39 is a Boy Run Troop; this means that the Scouts, not the adults, are the leaders they decide what trips they are going to take, elect their own leaders, and make their own decisions about how the troop is run. The adults are there to make sure that everything is safe and to provide guidance as necessary; this is very different from Cub Scouts. Our boys learn about camping, leadership, and all of the things that Boy Scouts have been doing since 1910, including becoming a man in the best sense of the word. The Scouts of Troop 39 camp year round, they go on high adventure trips such as canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting; but most of all, they have FUN and we have been doing it for over 75 years!
But dont just take my word for it. Make sure to visit other troops in the area. Listen to what the boys say about them. Do the scouts learn leadership by doing; is it boy run, or do the Scouts just do what the adults tell them? Are there lots of opportunities to have adventure in the outdoors, or do they just have boring meetings? Most of all, does it sound like it will be FUN a place you look forward to going to every week? Then, come to Troop 39 and see what you think! A map is provided below.
We would like to invite you and your family to visit our meetings, which are held every Monday night at the Presbyterian Church at Morris Plains (400 Speedwell Ave.) from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. We would like to also invite you to a campout or a hike with us. Take a look at our calendar to see what might interest you. Visit with us, and then decide if you want to join a troop that will make you proud to be a Boy Scout and learn to grow into a man who lives the Scout Law. We think Troop 39 would be a good choice!
