Troop 39 History

twig

Born in Stanhope in June of 1900, he became a Scout in 1912.  He was appointed Scout Leader at 17, and continued on until he left to attend Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. After graduation he worked at New York Telephone Company as an engineer, then transferred to New Jersey Telephone, moving to Morris Plains in 1929. He became active in community events, and in 1930 formed Troop 39. In 1962 he retired from the telephone company and moved to Port Charlotte, Florida with his bride of 75 years, Rachel.  Mr. Mallay lived there until he passed away two years ago. Some of his memories included picking up old newspapers all over town and delivering them to the Whippany Paper Board Company on Whippany Road for recycling – I guess some things never change!

We all owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Malloy, and will keep him in our hearts as a founding member of Troop 39.
